Putting these words down so they don’t drift away.

I like the smell of rain. The sound of steady rain at night. Stepping outside just after it’s stopped.

I like the way…

I also like the way you move…

and, that’s without ever knowing the way…

If you could take a class in anything, what would it be and why?

The question really seems to be “if you could have any skill you don’t have, which would it be?” I’d personally take a pilot training class. It’s because I enjoy flying and would want to be in control of my own flight.

That’s just a real-life class I’d take. I think it’d be more interesting if I could take some fantasy classes, like shape-shifting from the world of many fantasy novels like Harry Potter or The Magicians. I’d definitely try out flight as a large soaring bird of prey, or maybe as a nimble tree-climbing animal. I’d finish off a fun session as an apex predator, like a shark, or a lion.

What about you, dear readers? What class would you take, if you could take a class in anything?

It’s another gray morning. Winter wants to assert itself down here in a place known for sunny days and palm trees. My reminder app again urges me to bring an umbrella. It’s fun to carry, even if I don’t get to use it.

Browsing a few of my regularly visited websites, I come upon a nice poem about kissing. A bit selfishly, I’ll share it here:

Not lip lock, but subtle exploration.
Light kisses, butterfly kisses, deep kisses.
A portal into the soul of your lover.
Too often the hurried prelude to the big score.
Meant for lingering and delight.
Complete unto itself. A foretelling.
Your mouth will teach me
more than the words it speaks.
Only kiss me for five minutes
and I will know who you really are.

I confess that I’m not much of a poetry writer, but I am starting to see more romantic things less cynically lately. I suppose my girlfriend could be a factor in that. I hope that she appreciates my small (for now) romantic gestures since I’m flying a bit blind through this, mostly playing it by ear and seeing where our whims take us.

I’m looking forward to sharing more of my nerdy interests with here such as a get-together to watch some of the current Games Done Quick marathon. In the world of gaming, it’s a bit like the Olympics of speed-gaming, but it is sometimes very fun to watch people who are great at completing games quickly. It also reminds me that quite a few classic games have nearly endless possibilities for fun.

I need a new calendar for my wall. I think I’ll enlist some outside help to find a fun one for 2017. If you’ve seen a fun calendar online, leave a link in a comment below. I might actually pick one if nothing catches my eye during my occasional trips to the local mall.

I realized something recently. I have no idea if I share some of my interests with my friends. I suppose it’s because of the things that we already know we have in common, like our shared love of the Doctor Who universe.

I do have a few more deep interests that I might be less obscure than they seem to me, such as watching speed-gaming for fun. Hopefully, I’ll be less afraid to share some of my special interests to try and pull them a bit out of obscurity. The fear is of getting the blank stare of those who don’t quite understand what I’m describing. It’s the fear of being uninteresting if I must put a name to it.

I had this wild thought. Maybe showing interest in something, anything at all can be interesting. That’s my hope.

S. by J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst

I’ve had this book for a few years now. Every time I see it, I remember that it’s not ordinary, for a book. It has, as a core feature, multiple layers. There’s the core text, the fictional author V.M. Straka’s Ship Of Theseus, and then there are the copious notes and other physical ephemera shoved between pages of the text, placed by apparently multiple characters. That’s the secondary layer and is why it comes in a solid dust jacket as well. This is definitely a book you don’t experience properly in electronic form.

I’ve made at least one attempt to complete this adventure in the past, but now, I think I may have the fortitude to do so. It’s going to take a while, I know, because my current plan is for at least two careful readings, with the first being to get the bottom layer text under my belt. These readings will require ignoring the margin notes, bits of loose notes, and multiple colored annotations. I’ll get to that on the second reading, as I try to unravel what’s going on with the 2(3? 4?) other readers.

If we were having coffee…

I’d realize that my weekly recap post should maybe be made on Saturdays. I’m still thinking about that. I just would need to find something else I could do every Friday, consistently.

I’d also let you know that I’m finally getting around to seeing Moana this afternoon. I’ve heard, from so many friends, that it’s splendid. I’m sure they’re all as young at heart as I am, so we’ll see.

I’ve started multiple relatively intense challenges, such as one for coding, and one to post every single day in 2017. Today marks 7 days in so far and is part of a bit of a longer streak I began in December. The latter I’m hoping will snowball into a permanent habit. So far, the streak is unbroken for a couple weeks. Whether these posts will be worthy of reading is another matter entirely, but I’ll work on that as well.

To that end as well, I do intend to try not to put out super short posts, except on Mondays. I’ve reserved that day specifically for “microblogging”. It’s pretty tough to spew out the recommended 500 words sometimes, though, so I know I’ll slip up from time to time.

I’m learning what it’s like, what it’s really like to be in a serious relationship. I mean that I’d heard stories and even consumed some romantic content, in various forms over the years, but I used to think, cynically, that a lot of the “mushy stuff” was artificial, and a bit contrived. Over the years, and especially recently, I’m seeing that some traits that are not, and all it takes to fall into the habits that couples get into is to find somebody you really “click” with.

As an example, sometimes, I’ll have a crazy thought slip into my mind, and, just before I’m able to vocalize it, my significant other will ask about it. I’m trying not to over think this, however, and just going with it seems fine, if not a bit scary sometimes. I just thought I’d share some of that thought process here as well.

It’s another gray, somewhat rainy morning, but I’m still looking forward to going out today. I’ll be very careful to take care of the tickle in my throat. I also plan to stay well hydrated since it generally also helps with my well-being in general. I’ve got a large umbrella handy and also a very solid coat. It’s going to be a very fun day, and evening, full of snuggles and some warm beverages. I do hope that, for whoever is reading this, that your weekend is also a cozy one (for northern hemisphere folks) or, at least bearable, while in the company of loved ones.

Before I forget, Happy New Year!

This is it. It’s the first week of 2017, and I’ve gone and made an intention. I’ll write a weekly wrap-up post every week. Here is the first one.

To start the year off epicly, I attended a wedding. It was the first one where the bride and groom aren’t related to me by blood. The vows were uttered shortly after midnight, making it one of the earliest of the new year.

I also continued an earlier intention of posting every day as well as specifically on my site every Monday, and it’s still feeling like a reasonable thing. My first of many busy weekends is coming up, though. I wonder how hard it’s going to be to keep these streaks going.

Sometimes, two reminders are better than one!

Since I can’t quite tell what my side project workload should be, I also began a coding challenge. I simply got an itch that I wanted to scratch there and forcing myself to scratch it seemed like the right thing to do. If you want to make a weekly something, then check out this post for inspiration:

The 52-Week Writing Challenge

Alright, now it’s your turn. Comment or post(and pingback!) How did your week go?

It’s not-quite-lunch time, and I’m a bit hungry. What to choose, though? Fruit? Or candy? They’re both sweet. I’m not on any particular diet. I am conscious, however, of how I usually feel after eating each item.

That makes the decision easier. The apple is yummy!

I spotted this in my reader today, and I decided to add a quick note. This is not the first such service I’ve seen (App.net still exists, after all), but it’s always worth checking out when another contender comes along to give the existing incumbents reason to sit up in their chairs. We’ll see how this shakes out once the service rolls out. What do you think? Will you try Micro.blog? I’ll reserve my handle, of course.

There it is. It’s such a great quote, from a great movie. Fantastic Beasts actually features many more great quotes, but that one made me nod my head super hard in agreement (and giggle a little.)
