I sit and read another post that reminds me of some key aspects of building new habits, and realize, with a bit of disheartening clarity, that I’ve stumbled on one of the tips put forth by Belle Beth Cooper on the Buffer Open Blog:

Focus on one habit at a timeOne of the hardest things for me when it comes to building new habits is to not take on too many at once. I always have such grand plans for the things I want to get better at, and so much enthusiasm when I first start out, that I want to build several habits at once.

My setback has been due to taking on too many habits at once. I’ve only had success in January with one: writing more consistently. Honestly, I should have paid heed since only one new habit could realistically be firmly established in such a short time.

I actually am at the point where I feel like something important’s not being done if I don’t at least start a post. Even if I don’t hit the publish button, as long as I’ve saved some thoughts, I consider that enough to check the box in Momentum (a fine habit tracking app!)

Trimmed some stuff and finished a book, so took a break to decide on what’s next.

I think, after this sharp reminder, that I’ll give myself a few more weeks before adding another important habit. I’m also going to hold myself more accountable. Part of that will be to partake in a more formal course of action. Specifically, an email course.

Today’s the day. A classic sci-fi series, The X-Files, makes its return to television, with a small set of episodes. Not a full season, but I’m sure the bigwigs want to gauge fan interest.

I’m sure they’ll find out the fans are still out there. 🙂

I have been a fan of the show since it first aired, although I do have some gaps, some episodes I didn’t see during the initial run. The X-Files was one of the first shows I can remember where I knew fans that would gather, weekly to watch it together, have small parties. They explained to me that fans of the show are X-Philes.

I got a kick out of that. It wasn’t until the new interest in Doctor Who that I realized there were other fans of other shows doing nearly the same thing. I’m still not quite sure if I’ll do that yet, but I have seen a few episodes of Doctor Who with other fans. It’s a fun experience, to be sure, so if I get an invite, I’m leaning towards going.

While I certainly wouldn’t claim it as the best episode, my favorite was José Chung’s From Outer Space. It’s nearly a parody, while also still fitting in with the show’s plot. There’s even the traditional men in black and menacing aliens in it. It was one of the more “stylized” episodes, and features Jesse Ventura and Alex Trebek. The episodes that were produced in a different style were some really fun ones.

Here’s to hoping the NFC Championship game goes relatively quickly tonight!

I want to believe.

Human tragedy is sad when it takes place in any location, especially when it is completely senseless and indiscriminate. Any similar act to this one deserves sympathy equally for the victims and their family and friends. This rant was not conceived out of lack of that, but due to the appearance of misdirected anger that often follows such an event.

The world is going nuts over yet another terror attack. This time, Paris was hit. Becoming the usual, the big media is helping to whip people into a frenzy of hateful attitudes.

You’ve got people saying things like “pray4paris”, or “pray4people”, and, on nearly every related post, others are saying “why not [country B, C, or a bunch of D’s]?” The problem with those is the classic assumption that those are intentionally being ignored by people who are actually awake.

I mean, has nobody been paying attention to the real refugee situation? I know I’m not the only one following stories like the Ghost Boat, am I?

That’s never the case, or hope would be lost.

For those feeling useless: you shouldn’t. There’s quite a bit that can be done, even to combat the ignorance and hate-fueled stuff out there. It doesn’t even take money to do so, and, as expected, organizations like the Red Cross has been in need and making calls. Other organizations, such as Doctors Without Borders could also use a hand in the war zones where, coincidentally, refugees are fleeing from, when they can.

Chances are, if you see this post, it’ll have been days or weeks after because, honestly, I thing some heads need to cool down a bit before they consider actual action, beyond knee-jerk reactions to a tragic situation. Bringing awareness is a good thing, but it’s never OK to trample on a fresh tragedy to bring attention to a slightly less fresh one, especially when their root causes are related.

I’ve ranted a bit, so it’s time to balance it with some relaxation and contemplation. Be good to one another. We’re all humans on a pale blue dot, after all.be-good

Well, today’s a day long awaited. The concert. Foo Fighters, at The Honda Center(aka The Pond). I’ve been looking forward to this since last December, when I ordered my ticket.

I’ve actually wanted to see these guys perform live for many years now. They’ve been at it for a couple decades and I find that I like songs from nearly all their albums.

Even though I couldn’t afford to buy their albums or go to concerts when I was a bit younger, I’m glad to be able to now. I’m hopeful that this will be an awesome rock concert.

I’ve forgotten how many times I’ve seen High Warlord Naj’Entus downed, but it must have been more than a couple dozen.

Halberd of Desolation has only dropped once since I’ve been visiting the Black Temple. My mantra for now remains “maybe next week the dice roll will be favorable…” Good thing this is the first boss in the instance or I would seriously get back into arena. If I’d only have known it would take so long. It hasn’t beaten Legacy as the most annoying drop for me though. I’d have to get it after we get Sunwell on farm first.

That’s not happening for a while yet. It won’t be too long though, compared to this wait.
